FAQ
Here are the answers to some of the most Frequently Asked Questions our firm receives.
Q. Making Payment to the IRS A. Effective with the 1999 filing season, payments to the IRS should be made payable to "United States Treasury" as opposed to the "IRS". However, if you inadvertently make the check payable to IRS, don't worry, as expected, the IRS will still take your money.
Q. When to call for your tax return appointment. A. Please call my office as soon as possible, preferably in January or early February. Even though you may not have received or gathered all your information, you can still call for an appointment. It is not necessary for you to have all your information ready before making an appointment. If it is more convenient, you may want to simply mail all your information to my office. Your records will still be detail reviewed, and I will call you for further questions and deductions.
Q. Why pay state estimated tax before December 31 A. The final installment for state estimated taxes is due January 15, but in most cases it should be paid just before December 31. State taxes are deductible on your Federal return in the year they are paid. If you pay before December 31, 2003 you get the tax benefit on your 2003 return; if you pay when it is due on January 15, 2004, you have to wait until you file your 2004 return to get the benefit of the Federal deduction. Either way you get the credit on your year 2003 state return.
